The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE SHOW 2020 has been postponed – Date rescheduled for spring 2021

To respond to the increasingly acute global situation around the recent occurrence of the coronavirus, The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE SHOW planned in Cologne from 1 March 2020 has been postponed to a new date in 2021. It will be held 21 to 24 February 2021 in Cologne.

The new date was set in consultation with the industry and is meeting with broad acceptance by the exhibitors. All existing contracts with the exhibitors remain valid; hall occupancy for 2021 reflects the existing plans from 2020 on a 1:1 basis.

There will be just one leading trade fair for the hardware industry in Cologne in 2021: Asia-Pacific Sourcing, which was planned for March, will be integrated into the HARDWARE FAIR. The next event after that will then be held as planned, in spring 2022.

All paid tickets will be automatically refunded. Koelnmesse will centrally issue these refunds in the coming weeks; there is nothing further for ticket buyers to do.

The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR is the world’s leading platform for innovation and business in the hardware sector. Some 3,000 exhibitors had been expected in 2020, including around 1,200 from China.

INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR 2020: Trendsetter for innovative developments

From 1 to 4 March, when the hardware industry comes together in the Cologne exhibition halls for the EISENWARENMESSE – International Hardware Fair, there will once again be a veritable firework display of innovations It is and will continue to be a tradition for Koelnmesse to ask exhibitors about trends and new products in the run-up to the trade fair. In many companies, automation and digitalisation are currently getting a lot of attention. Consequently, many innovative solutions from the areas of tools, industrial supplies, fasteners and fixings, and home improvement will be on display.

EAVQ-0hWwAItAdt.jpg

The term “Industry 4.0” first coined in 2011 is also firmly established in the hardware industry. More and more, companies are working on networking the entire industrial value-added chain as part of digitalisation. This begins with order entry, continues with the ordering of goods and production and also involves logistics. All vendors, suppliers and of course customers are integrated into this virtual network. Figuratively speaking, the Cordless Alliance System (CAS) is also about networking. Currently, 13 power tool suppliers use the Metabo technology and the same interface. The advantages for users: More than 140 different power tools can be operated with the same rechargeable batteries and one charger is all you need to always be operational. It is precisely the fact that battery-operated tools are growing in popularity because they create energy independence that this alliance offers real customer value. Other important criteria for a better connection with customers are higher quality, speed and most of all cost optimisation.

For many companies, it can also be a decisive competitive advantage to present themselves as a strong innovative partner for the future to both industrial and artisanal customers. In the case of one exhibitor, their trade presentation focuses on a newly designed product configurator for industrial pullers. An increasing number of customers expect individual solutions and if possible 24/7. The configurator helps customers find their individual product quickly and easily.

High-quality measurement technology will also be simple and fast in the future. Where in the past, things still had to be done manually, today devices transfer measured data directly to the computer. The user can then evaluate and document the data even without programming knowledge. The scope of delivery of such high-tech measuring instruments includes the corresponding evaluation software, which enables direct data acquisition, the display of up to two devices, simple calculation within the software and the traceability of measurement errors.

And also with grinding technology, high-tech is increasingly being used to improve the performance of existing tools. For the extra-thin cutting disc segment in particular, the higher compression as well as the improved alignment between grain quality and bond hardness are crucial for increased performance. New production techniques make it possible for increasingly thinner discs to have more abrasive grain. Even in the area of flap discs, the higher compression also plays an important role because it allows better flap fastening, which increases the performance and service life of the discs.

Partnership with retailers
The right communication and presentation to specialist retailers and customers are essential building blocks for a pliers manufacturer. The smartphone, fast access to information, and new ordering and purchasing behaviour will place even greater demands than before on manufacturers and retailers. Addressing customer target groups directly is therefore becoming increasingly important. In Cologne, appropriate digital tools will be presented, which retailers can use to search for relevant product information more quickly and intuitively, and be able to recommend exactly the right product to the customer. At the same time, exhibitors also rely on social media channels, which are gaining importance in terms of engaging with customers and users worldwide. The significance of social media, especially for tool manufacturers, is also confirmed by another exhibitor. In the B2C business in particular, customers would look at the ratings on the internet before making a purchasing decision. Another factor is the increasing brand awareness of many customers. This is because brands offer orientation and also create trust. Furthermore, brands also underscore the competence of the retailer that sells them.

Smart home
Digital is also growing when it comes to door and window products. The keyword here is smart home. Contactless opening systems are increasingly making their way into door and window technology, which of course are perfect for integrating into a smart home. One vendor shows an opening version that allows the front door to be unlocked without active assistance. When approaching the door from a distance of up to approximately one metre, the encrypted signal of the transponder in key fob format recognises whether a person is authorised to enter. If access is authorised, a clearly visible spot of light appears on the floor in front of the door. By simply moving your foot over the light point, the motorised lock is released and the door can be opened. Since not everyone relies on electronics, interesting mechanical hardware solutions will also be presented.

Despite the growing importance of digital aspects, there are also many other issues that continuously come up for providers, such as legal considerations. In the area of access systems, the “Technical Rules for Workplace Safety 2121, Part 2” (TRBS 2121-2) of December 2018 still provide fodder for discussion within the specialist trade because of the changes that have taken place as a result, particularly for business users. The guidelines now differentiate between ladders with rungs and stepladders and whether they are used as a means of access or for performing work. If a ladder is used to perform work, it may only be done with stepladders. This is something that retailers have to point out to their access systems customers.

It’s all about colour
When it comes to interiors, experts predict that the coming year will bring a trend reversal because manufacturers and various colour institutes expect 2020 to be the year of colours. Warm colours and pastels in turquoise, grey or aqua may be taking centre stage. This also goes for more muted, dark hues – also with iridescent or shiny metallic effects. At the same time, stronger contrasts and vibrant colours like red and orange will also be making a statement in the home next year. For floor coverings, the trend towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions is still continuing. Customers who invest in high-quality, sustainable flooring want it to remain in peak condition for as long as possible. One supplier addresses this concern and presents a special surface protection concept in Cologne that prevents scratches on parquet or vinyl.

Trend exhibition “Future Interiors – designed in Germany” at imm cologne 2020

50886408_10156712317890056_5574720915729547264_nWhen it comes to interiors, sustainability is the sum of many factors, including, among others, durability, design, quality and the use of ecologically compatible materials. German interiors brands not only credibly embody these values. They also unite these with contemporary requirements for multifunctionality and universal design, which will increase in relevance in future. The “Future Interiors – designed in Germany“ exhibition initiated by the international interiors fair imm cologne demonstrates this vividly with product examples from the entire portfolio of the assortments represented in Cologne, from the stool to the fitted kitchen, and embeds the product stagings in an interior design suited to the trend.

The special event at the centre of Hall 10.2 is curated and linked with an attractive interior design by the trend expert and interior designer Katrin de Louw (Trendfilter). Under the headings of Universal Design, Ecological Materials, Sustainable Color, Multifunctional and Long-Living Quality, the premiere exhibition in January presents innovations from German manufacturers like Bali, Möbelwerke A. Decker GmbH, Hartmann Möbelwerke GmbH, Hey-Sign, Himolla Polstermöbel, Kare Design, Koinor Polstermöbel, [more] Bernhard Müller, Ponsel Polstermöbel, Schöner Wohnen, Sudbrock and Wimmer Wohnkollektion on around 150 m². The format offers the German furniture and interiors industry an attractive and inspiring platform for showcasing the strengths of German furniture design in the context of trends and mega-trends.

Intensifying the profile of interiors solutions from Germany

With “Future Interiors – designed in Germany”, imm cologne hopes to intensify the profile for interiors from Germany and particularly address foreign visitors from the furniture trade, project interiors and interior design segments. At the same time, German visitors should also be made conscious of what characterises German design and what benchmarks German interiors brands are setting for the features of relevance for the future. “imm cologne is doubtlessly an interiors fair with international ambitions”, Claire Steinbrück, Director of imm cologne, clarifies, and adds: “Nonetheless, German design should also receive its own space in this international context”. The exhibition curator Katrin de Louw explains: “The exhibition provides visitors with a quick excerpt of good, new, national products and makes clear that German design is pioneering, with qualities extending from durable quality, ecological materials and universal design to socially responsible production processes.”

Promoting sustainability with highly combinable colours

The products are presented between high, differently designed wall panels that convey intimacy without blocking vistas. The exhibition is supported by Hohenberger wallpapers and the just founded Colornetwork project, a service offering organised as a network of trend experts and companies for furnishers and interior designers for researching harmoniously coloured products.

This provides the exhibition at imm cologne with a very special colour concept. In the case of “Sustained Colour No.1: be rooted“, chosen by an expert committee from Colornetwork, this involves an earthy shade of brown, which is associated with warmth and nature, and which is compatible with nearly all types of stone and wood. “Future Interiors – designed in Germany” shows how well the shade is suited to such different materials and colours as copper and pastel colours, black metal and brass, or also aqua and modern accent colours. Colour is conceived of as sustainable here, and should prove how variable it can be in the material context. Used sustainably, colour can significantly extend the service life of products, because it is the band that holds furniture, material and design together, as the exhibition impressively demonstrates.

Design from Germany is distinguished by promising aspects

Thanks to the high level of participation of imm cologne exhibitors, the special event “Future Interiors – designed in Germany!” will definitely be one of the highlights of Home, the newly structured and experience-oriented, tuned north section. Each of the five most important competence areas for German interiors brands worked out by Trendfilter, namely Universal Design, Ecological Materials, Sustainable Color, Multifunctional and Long-Living Quality, will have furnishing solutions appropriately staged for the theme. The exemplary stagings will be comprehensibly explained for visitors by multilingual wall texts.

Multifunction: versatile furniture

Where the flexible usage of furnishings is involved, the products shown surprise through their versatility. “Flexible usage begins in the mind and can, for example, go into series production with clever functional fittings”, comments Trendfilter founder Katrin de Louw on the resourcefulness of German manufacturers. Strictly one-sided usage rituals are also examined for potential additional usage possibilities in the exhibition. Multifunctionality represents real added value for buyers and will further increase in importance against the background of increasingly rare, affordable living space in urban areas and the increase in single households.

Universal Design: across generations

Due to the demographic transformation, the theme of Universal Design is also a large growth market that products designed in Germany are already competently serving, as the examples in the exhibition show. “Nonetheless”, forecasts Katrin de Louws, “it will be more important in future to develop attractive products that are sexy today and still function tomorrow.” On the whole, according to Katrin de Louw, Universal Design must reinvent itself so that products for the older generation are attractive and state of the art. “In addition to the downaging taking place in our society, older generations are also more mobile and are active online. While fashion is not relevant for this target group, zeitgeist and design very much are.”

Long-Living Quality: durable interiors

In the Long-Living Quality section, a Sudbrock bed will illustrate how bespoke work Made in Germany combined with intelligent storage solutions can be a design statement for many decades. Despite daily use, such furniture functions for up to 30 years and then often finds a new lease on life in the allotment garden hut or in the basement. “Furniture produced in Germany demonstrates an enormously high standard – from the material through fittings and additional functions to processing. The life span of furniture produced in Germany is leading worldwide”, the trend expert Katrin de Louw confirms.

Ecological Materials: sparing materials

Especially the theme of materiality, to which the Ecological Materials section in the exhibition is dedicated, will increase greatly in importance in the coming years. The German manufacturers, as well as consumers, are once again on the whole trusting more in real wood products, especially in solid wood, as they are presented in this section of the exhibition. The focus is thereby on the regional procurement of wood, which is why many local types of wood can be seen in the exhibition. The challenge for industry and commerce lies in effectively transporting the added value of ecological and sustainable products.

A dark, elegant shade for the interior design of the coming years

The theme of colours must also be considered in the search for holistic and environmentally-friendly interiors solutions. With “Future Interiors – designed in Germany!”, it will be demonstrated at imm cologne 2020 for the first time how colour can be conceived of sustainably and how it retains its validity in the interiors segment longer as a result. “A ‘Sustained Colour’ is found in the zeitgeist of the coming decade, adapts repeatedly to new furnishing ideas and doesn’t push itself into the foreground, but instead accompanies the ideas of the interior designers and furnishers”, is how Katrin de Louw defines the idea of sustainable colouring. That a dark colour will define the “Future Interiors – designed in Germany“ exhibition at imm cologne in 2020 with “be rooted” is also due to the fact that dark colours are increasing in significance. The colour in any case lends the exhibition a sense of luxury and emotion – a new highlight for the new Home theme world and a point of attraction for Interior Professionals!

IEX DEMONSTRATES MARKET POTENTIAL FOR INDUSTRIAL INSULATION

bilder_logos-banner_intern_iex2018-728x90-e_468_60_c

  • 150 exhibitors will be showing the complete cross-section of technical insulations for thermal, cold, acoustic and fire protection
  • Meeting point for insulation companies, facilities engineering planners, mechanical engineering companies, architects, energy managers and facility managers

download_presse-all_2018_iex_2016_messevorschau-1_220_150Industrial insulations enjoy an enormous market potential worldwide because only higher energy efficiency and reduced operating expenses allow energy-intensive branches of industry to operate competitively on a global scale. The potential held by modern insulation materials and technologies will be presented by IEX – Insulation Expo Europe in Cologne from 16 – 17 May. The trade fair makes it perfectly clear: the demand for insulation materials, innovative substances and digitalisation are key drivers for the sector. The exhibitors therefore look to the future with optimism.

IEX is the sector’s No. 1 meeting point throughout all of Europe for insulation companies, facilities engineering planners, mechanical engineering companies, architects, energy managers and facility managers. The trade fair covers the entire panoply of materials and processing options in thermal, cold, acoustic and fire protection. The spectrum of exhibits ranges from insulation materials and insulation systems for industrial thermal and cold insulation through products for sound insulation and preventive fire protection to tools, machines, measuring equipment and software solutions. 150 exhibitors from a total of 24 nations will be expected at the Cologne exhibition centre.

download_presse-all_2018_iex_2016_messevorschau-2_250_167_cThe focus will be on novel materials introduced by insulation material manufacturers that live up to ever more complex industrial facilities and comply with stricter fire protection regulations. Amongst other things manufacturers will present further developed systems for insulation material production at IEX and will increasingly focus on digitalisation for finishing and processing.

At the IEX lecture forum exhibitors will be addressing the current trends and industry themes in technical talks. Lectures will focus on latest product developments in high-insulation materials, fire protection, production digitalisation and the processing, measuring and calculation processes for energy-efficient insulation as well as concrete energy-savings potentials in the industry. Likewise, health & safety issues, liability risks incurred by insulation companies and disposal regulations will be addressed in these talks.

The European Industrial Insulation Foundation (EiiF) will use IEX to share the latest figures and findings of the TIPCHECK energy audits carried out in the period 2016-2017.

European Insulation Championship 2018

The best insulators from nine European countries will meet in Cologne on 16 and 17 May to crown the European champion of the insulation trade. At the “FESI Insulation Apprentice Championship” held as part of the trade fair insulation apprentices showcase the high standards in insulation and cladding work for cold and thermal insulation as well as acoustic and fire protection. Their task is to clad a dummy with various insulation materials.

The championship is organised by FESI (Fédération Européenne des Syndicats d’Entreprises d’Isolation), the umbrella organisation of the European insulation trade associations. This year will see teams from Germany, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Poland and Ireland compete with each other.

Savings potential highly attractive from an economic perspective

“Technical insulation has tremendous market potential worldwide because enhanced energy efficiency makes many industries more competitive internationally”, says Olaf Freier, the event director of IEX for organiser Reed Exhibitions. The independent energy consulting company Ecofys calculated as early as 2012 that enormous energy and CO2 savings lay dormant in Europe’s industrial plants, amounting to the equivalent of the yearly energy consumption of 10 million households (172,200,000 MWh/620 PJ).

The EiiF, most recently in 2016, was able to provide concrete real-world evidence of this large savings potential inherent in the efficient insulation of industrial facilities, which for the operators is highly attractive from an economic perspective: the insulation systems of approximately 180 plants were examined in the context of the group’s so-called TIPCHECK programme. In the analysed production areas alone, the TIPCHECK audits determined an annual energy savings potential of 750,000 megawatt hours and possible CO2 emissions reductions of up to 500,000 metric tonnes. “The culprit in almost all cases is easily avoidable heat loss due to insufficient thermal and cold insulation of plant components like fittings, heat exchangers, pipes and storage systems”, says EiiF director Andreas Gürtler. “The fact that three out of four plant operators immediately decided to invest in the proposed insulation measures also shows very clearly how attractive this savings potential is for industry. The average payback time is two years, but often it’s actually just a few months.”

About IEX – Insulation Expo Europe

The forthcoming IEX – Insulation Expo Europe will be held from 16 – 17 May at the Cologne exhibition centre. IEX is organised by Reed Exhibitions, the biggest trade fair organiser worldwide. The event receives generous support from the Federation of the German Construction Industry (HDB), the Central Association of the German Construction Trade (ZDB), the European industry association FESI and the EiiF – European Industrial Insulation Foundation.

EXPONATEC COLOGNE 2017 shows the latest trends as well as products and provides valuable impulses for the industry

exponatec_header_975x180_2_974x180

Every two years, the international museum, restoration and conservation industry meets for the leading trade fair EXPONATEC COLOGNE.  The focus of this year’s EXPONATEC COLOGNE is on the future of exhibiting. From 22 to 24 November 2017, the future of exhibiting will be the focus of this year’s EXPONATEC COLOGNE. In four exhibition areas, institutions and companies from all relevant segments of the cultural market will present new products, solutions and concepts revolving around exhibiting, restoration and cultural heritage thus providing groundbreaking impulses to the visitors. Questions of the museum and information management, security, transport and logistics, as well as multimedia or augmented reality concepts will be important topics of the trade fair again.

coarse.jpegThe central topic will be cultural heritage, which is increasing in importance with a view to the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018, with its central theme of “Sharing Heritage”. The focus of the discussion is the protection of the European cultural heritage, the identification with our heritage and the willingness to preserve it, also as a part of what connects us with Europe and beyond. The goal in future is to actively guide even broader segments of society, especially the young generation, to our cultural heritage.

Corresponding to these aims, EXPONATEC COLOGNE 2017, with its new meta-plaza and the integrated Startup City area, also offers a new platform for startup companies. This should offer young companies not only an area for presentation, but especially promote the exchange of future-oriented ideas and proven concepts in the industry. In addition to this, organisations and associations present best practice models from all areas involving the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage and monuments in the exhibition area “Cultural Heritage”. The focus here is primarily on methods and technologies best suited for preserving cultural heritage.

coarse (1).jpeg

For the young generation in the industry, especially for students, EXPONATEC offers a diverse programme, as well as direct contact with exhibitors as potential employers. The trade fair thus presents an ideal platform for the Cologne Institute for Conservation Sciences (CICS) of the Technical University of Cologne, as well as for the Berlin University of Applied Sciences to present their diverse and ambitious fields of research to all those interested. In addition to the Master Day on 23 November, with presentations of the master themes of the last two years, CICS offers insights into the work of conservation sciences at its stand.

The prospects for a successful trade fair are very good: numerous well-known associations and companies from 15 different countries have already confirmed their participation. The trusting cooperation in a spirit of partnership with important associations and institutions will also be continued, as these contribute decisively to the success of the trade fair with their themes. These include, among others, Europa Nostra with its conference on the theme of “Digital Monument”, the association of restorers (VDR) with the conference “Trompe-l’oeil – Illusion and reality”, the Deutsche Museumsbund e.V. (German museum federation), the Museumsbund Österreich (Austrian museum association), the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) and the European Heritage Association. The latter has already used EXPONATEC COLOGNE for the eighth time to present prizewinning projects and concepts of European museums and cultural institutions to an international public in the context of the Best in Heritage Excellence Club. A winning project of the multimedia and technology segment “Imagine”, which has existed since 2016, is also taking part for the first time.

Last but not least, the autumn trade fair reflects the current trends of the museum, restoration and conservation segment with its varied supporting programme: museums, libraries, archives and other cultural institutions therefore utilise EXPONATEC as a central industry meeting point for presenting the most important new products and developments. How modern technology like virtual reality (VR) can be integrated into brand presences or which presentation forms best speak to which target groups are central questions that will be answered at EXPONATEC.
